Anne Wilkes Bio

I am currently pursuing an accounting degree, funny enough, which has in turn led me to have a greater interest in writing and publishing. Growing up, I always loved English class, reading, and creative writing, and not getting the opportunity to do this while having a schedule full of accounting classes made me realize how much I miss it. I love to write little stories for my friends or plow through books in my free time and after an accounting internship that I did not enjoy, publishing seemed like an option I might like to try.

I wanted a way to test the waters on publishing and see if it was a sector that I could actually see myself working and making an impact, so this internship seemed like a good fit to do this. My only hopes and expectations are to make the most of every conversation and task to learn as much as possible and see if this is an area I could see myself working for the foreseeable future!

I really love children's books, and I like to make little illustrations and come up with stories for the kids I babysit too, so I think it would be really fun to work in that field, but I also enjoy reading all sorts of books and would want to spend some time learning about more genres before putting myself in a box. Fiction is an area I spend a lot of time in too, and could see myself enjoying editing and publishing fiction, along with writing it!

Honestly, I haven't thought too much about long term goals in publishing due to my recent revival in the thought of pursuing this as a career, but I hope this internship can help me to shape my goals and ideas for what I want to do. I am a hard worker and fast learner and like to think I have creative ideas and solutions, so I think I could be an asset to the industry if I continued in a publishing path. I always write silly little things for fun for my friends and kids I babysit and cousins, but I don't have any serious writing or publishing experience. Everytime I do stories for them, people say I should be a writer, which always makes me think about writing books or getting into publishing, so after writing children's books for fun with my roommate, I really started to think about it!

It has been a while, but I did receive a Scholastic Awarded Silver Key for a short story I wrote in High School.
