In October 2008, I started turning a dream into reality by creating a publishing company right from my garage and two small home offices. Whether this venture becomes a massive success or remains a modest operation, I’ll continue to pour my passion for storytelling into every project. For years, I’ve immersed myself in every aspect of the creative process—transforming manuscripts, scribbled notes, or even grocery bag ideas into high-quality, bookstore-ready books. This journey began in 2002 under the name Diverse Media, but I eventually decided to take things further, establishing Black Bed Sheet Books as a credible and respected publishing house. Since my work and reputation are rooted in horror literature, that’s where our primary focus lies.
Over the years, I’ve had my share of challenges working with publishers and agents who didn’t meet expectations. That experience drove me to become fiercely independent and determined to build something better. I’ve made significant progress in my career by working for myself, and now I aim to help other authors achieve their goals. My mission is to be the kind of publisher I always wanted—a partner who champions authors and ensures their work is presented to its fullest potential.
At Black Bed Sheet Books, we provide professional editing, top-tier book design (inside and out), and compelling cover art that not only makes authors proud but also helps sell books. We handle printing and distribution, primarily through Amazon/CreateSpace and other distributors, making our titles available globally. While major chains like Barnes & Noble present challenges for small presses, we’ve found strong relationships with independent bookstores to be a rewarding focus. Each book receives proper registration, ISBNs, and, in some cases, a Library of Congress number—leaving none of these details as the author’s responsibility.
We stand firm in our belief that authors shouldn’t pay anything for the production of their books. While we’re still growing, we strive to cover marketing materials like posters, bookmarks, and merchandise, consulting with authors as we secure funding for such extras. For author appearances and signings, we actively support our writers by negotiating event opportunities, supplying books for sale, and organizing group gatherings at conventions. These events allow authors to network with influential figures in the industry while enjoying a sense of community.
