A Little Bit About Me
Hello everyone! My name is Emily. I am 20 years old and work as a nanny part-time. I graduated high school when I was 15 years old. Immediately, I started college and obtained my AA in psychology. I love reading, specifically, romance and thriller novels. I was inspired to apply for the internship with Alpha Book Publisher by my friend. She read a short story I wrote that was about a personal experience. She said it brought tears to her eyes and it was beautifully written. It was a very personal piece I let her read, so to hear her compliments made me proud of my writing. To be transparent, I never felt confident in my writing. In school, I was always told my writing was subpar. My essays always had numerous critiques and even after fixing them, I would barely get a B or C on the assignment.
My expectations of the internship are to refine my writing skills, as well as see if I would like the publishing aspect of writing. I hope to learn how to combat writer's block and get my ideas on paper effectively. I am also interested in learning about how to convey an emotion without saying it.
My favorite genres are romance and thriller. I see myself contributing to these areas of the publishing industry by helping authors create the “surprise ending” readers want in a thriller or the “happy ending” in a romance novel. I would like to help create endings that leave you wanting more.
My long-term career goal in publishing is to become an exceptional editor. I believe my strong suit is grammar, punctuation, and spelling. Often while I am reading I see grammatical errors and I would love to be able to help someone fix those before they publish their book.
Also, I would love to publish a book of my own that people can relate to. My experiences and writing style would help men and women alike not feel so alone. The fiction books I envision myself writing would be the escape so many people want and desire, but give them the comfort that they need.
