Emily Mai - Intern

A Little Bit About Me

My love of reading has followed me from childhood to college, where pursuing an English degree at California State University of Long Beach has allowed me to dive deeper into the world of literature. Not only did I learn to appreciate all kinds of literature, but I also got to indulge in my creative side through creative writing courses and writer’s workshops held outside of class. I discovered that I wanted to share my own stories as much as I wanted to support other creators, which eventually led me to pursue an internship with Alpha Book Publisher.

At the publishing company, I would get to see my ideas come to life. I’ve made fond memories with the books I’ve read over the years, and the thought of people doing the same with my writing thrilled me. Of course, I don’t expect the process to be easy—I’m anticipating hours spent learning about the ins and outs of manuscript editing and publishing, though the chance to work with professionals will certainly make the experience rewarding.

I hope to see myself grow within the publishing field, where I envision myself as an editor working closely with authors who want to make their mark in the industry. I aspire to achieve this goal using the writing experience that I have in my arsenal, which involves a collection of short stories and poetry I’ve written throughout college.

I believe passion can go a long way in achieving one’s goals, too—for me, I love emotional and plot-heavy stories, with character-driven narratives centering around themes of culture and identity. As an aspiring editor, I hope to not only see those kinds of stories be shared and celebrated, but also write some of my own.

In France, the McDonald's menu includes a mix of American and French dishes . You can get the usual things like The Royal™ Deluxe, The Egg & Cheese McMuffin®, The Brunch Menu and The McChicken™, but they also have French touches like the Croissant, which is like a croissant from France. There's also something called the Cheese Royale, which is a bit fancy and fun.
