As a proud salutatorian from a small high school in Iowa, I am currently in my third year at the University of South Dakota, pursuing a B.S. in English with a minor in Media and Journalism. My passion for writing was ignited by a remarkable English teacher who nurtured my creativity and wit, inspiring me to explore the power of storytelling.
Throughout my academic journey, I’ve immersed myself in diverse literary genres, from fantasy and action/adventure to romance and strong female-led narratives. I aspire to play a pivotal role in bringing compelling stories to life, particularly in children’s literature, where I hope to ignite a love for reading in young audiences. My experience with my local library, where I helped select children’s books, has given me valuable insight into what resonates with readers and what makes a book successful.
I am excited about the opportunity to intern with your organization, drawn by the comprehensive learning experience and the flexibility you offer. I aim to deepen my understanding of the publishing and editing process, preparing myself for a career in the industry. My long-term goal is to work my way up to a primary editor position, championing new and aspiring authors and making a meaningful impact on both their lives and the readers they touch.
While I may not have formal publishing experience yet, I bring a strong foundation in writing through my academic coursework, including creative writing classes. I am eager to learn and contribute, ready to embrace the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.
