Free DIY Bookcase Plans: How to Build a Bookcase with a Rolling Cart

Building a bookcase with a rolling cart can be a great way to add both storage and mobility to a room. Here is a basic plan for building a simple bookcase with a rolling cart:

Materials:

• 4 pieces of 8-foot 1x12 lumber

• 4 caster wheels

• Wood glue

• Nails or screws

• Sandpaper

• Paint or stain (optional)

Tools:

• Saw

• Drill

• Measuring tape

• Level

• Clamps

• Paintbrush (if using paint or stain)

Instructions:

1. Measure and cut the 1x12 boards to the desired length and height of your bookcase. These will be the sides and shelves of the bookcase.

2. Apply wood glue to the edges of the 1x12 boards and clamp them together to form the sides of the bookcase. Allow the glue to dry for at least an hour.

3. Measure and mark the placement of the shelves on the sides of the bookcase.

4. Drill pilot holes for the nails or screws and attach the 1x12 boards together, making sure to align them with the marks for the shelves.

5. Sand the bookcase to smooth any rough edges.

6. Apply paint or stain if desired, and allow to dry.

7. Attach the caster wheels to the bottom of the bookcase, making sure they are evenly spaced and level.
