Haley Lewis - Intern

Hello,

My name is Haley Lewis. I live in Spokane, WA. I hold a bachelor’s degree in Creative Writing with a minor in Journalism from Eastern Washington University (2014) as well as a master’s in Strategic Communications from Washington State University (2023). My love for writing and reading has always been a part of me, and I especially enjoy writing personal non-fiction essays that explore deeper themes and how they connect to the world. Alongside this, I’ve developed an interest in digital media, marketing, blogging, and content writing/editing, which aligns with my passion for storytelling.

One of the reasons I’m pursuing an internship with Alpha Book Publisher is my desire to publish my own book, but I’ve been unsure of where to start. Alpha’s support in this process is incredibly appealing, as is the opportunity to gain insight into the book publishing industry. I’m excited to learn more about the steps involved and how I can contribute to the field.

My writing interests revolve around fashion—one of my passions—as well as life experiences and the lessons they’ve taught me. I dream of working at a fashion magazine or publishing a book that resonates with others who have similar experiences. I believe I can bring fresh perspectives to these topics and contribute meaningfully to the publishing industry by blending my personal passions with my writing.

In terms of my long-term career goals, I also envision myself working as a copywriter or editor, either in publishing or the digital sphere. Blogging is something I greatly enjoy, and I would love to incorporate marketing into my role in the publishing industry. My previous experiences have reinforced my passion for writing, from my time as a staff writer for my undergraduate’s student newspaper to editing a local non-profit’s newsletter for over two years. I completed a short-term paid internship with the local government, where I wrote copy for their website and social media platforms; I also created digital content, including photos and videos, using Adobe products. Blogging about fashion and my life since 2013 has also been a creative outlet that has fueled my desire to continue writing professionally.

While I don’t have any formal awards for my writing, I consider earning 10 college scholarships through my writing a notable achievement. Out of the 20 scholarships I applied for, securing half of them allowed me to attend community college for almost free, which I see as a testament to my skills and dedication. Overall, my varied experiences have deepened my love for writing and strengthened my resolve to pursue it as a career.
