A Little Bit About Me

I completed my last three years of high school in Belize, a country in Central America. Prior to that I studied in the U.S.A. The learning curriculum in Belize is different, so it opened my world to different perspectives. I am in my last term at Purdue University Global for my bachelor’s degree in communication.

After I graduated high school, I was not too sure what I wanted to do with my life. I gave myself a year to figure out what I wanted to do. During that year, I had so much time to dabble in different pursuits. It was not until one day I was told, “Pick something that you do not see as a job. Do something that you would not mind waking up early in the morning to do or stay up late to complete. Pick a career that you are passionate about, that makes you happy.” I took me a few weeks after that to reflect and think about my future and picture myself. It was not until the pile of books I had gotten from my aunt were done, all read, that I realized what made me happy. Reading. I thought back to my schoolwork, especially literature class and English class how devoted I was to write and how much I enjoyed putting my thoughts onto paper, that I decided. Publishing.

As my university journey comes to an end, reality is starting to set in. I currently live in Las Vegas, Nevada and there are no publishing companies here. One of my major concerns is how do I pick up my life, move to another state and start working in a publishing company with no experience. I searched for internships, and I was filled with joy and hope after seeing the post for internships at Alpha Book Publishing. Through this journey I hope to gain knowledge and real-life experience in the publishing industry to help me stand out and make impressions.

I am interested in all genres. I am more of a fictional writer and reader. My goal is to become part of the editing process, and once I have established myself within the company start my journey as an author.

As stated above, I would like to start off in the company as part of the editing team. The direct term for it is Content Editor. I want to edit manuscripts and advance them into best-selling novels. After a few years in this position, I would like to pursue my own desires to become an author and get my own work published. While I am working as an editor, I will have the chance to make connections, gain knowledge, and have learn from my own experience and that of others.

Over the course of six years I have written one short novel, started writing two novels and created an outline for another one. I have no prior publishing experience, but I do have experience in writing my own ideas down and bringing them to life on paper.
