A Little Bit About Me

Hello! My name is John Strojny and I am an aspiring writer who is seeking an opportunity to pursue a career in the publishing world. Having graduated from St. Norbert College with a Bachelor's Degree in English, I was introduced to a wide variety of literature, from 18th century poetry to contemporary short stories and novels.

Seeing the magic of storytelling come to life through such a variety of sources provided me with a deeper appreciation and love for the art. Ever since, I have been inspired to walk my own path to becoming a published writer as well as find my place amongst the publishing world, so that I may be a part of the process that brings impactful storytelling to light.

Early on in childhood, I discovered The Lord of the Rings and The Chronicles of Narnia and became mystified. I fell in love with the medieval and fantasy genre and have felt its allure ever since. As the years have gone on, I have discovered a new passion in working with children, which has sparked an intrigue in working in children’s book publishing. I remember the stories that helped shape my interests and even personality as a child, and few things would excite me more than being able to contribute to the process that will give new generations of children those same experiences.

All my life I have been an avid reader, and have always held aspirations of bringing forth my own stories to share with the world. That passion has evolved into not just pursuing my personal writing goals, but helping others achieve theirs as well. I expect working in publishing to do just that, leading to a long and gratifying career in the industry. My goal is to achieve a senior editor position, and perhaps beyond that to open a publishing firm of my own. Stories help us to express ourselves and communicate with one another in profound and powerful ways, and our world is populated with spectacular storyteller’s. I envision making an impact by helping those authors share those stories.

In my spare time, I enjoy writing stories in an effort to exercise creativity as well as build a collection of work to be published. Beyond recreational writing, I spent time as a freelance writer for the youtube channel Star Wars HQ, writing scripts that would be used for video content. Additionally, I currently do part-time work for the non-profit organization ChemTalk in which I write scripts based off of interviews of scientists that are then recorded and uploaded as Podcast episodes. These experiences have only fueled the fire that burns for storytelling, and pushes me to achieve more in the writing and book industry.

In junior high I was a recipient of the Young Author’s Award in recognition of a short story I had submitted for the contest. In high school I was selected for the HOBY (Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership) award, of which required a written essay for consideration. These are some of my writing achievements thus far, and I strive to add several more entries while pursuing a career that will surround me with like-minded individuals.
