Kaylee Paterson - Intern

Devon Burton Intern at Alpha Book Publisher

Kaylee’s Bio

Kaylee Paterson is a fiction fanatic, a follower of Jesus, and an aspiring editor dedicated to helping others share their passion through storytelling. She will be graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Human Communication this coming Spring and is excited to be a part of an internship that will expand her knowledge and imagination in the realm of publishing. Having written a blog for Hope Africa Collective after she visited Cape Town, she showcases her unique writing style through the recounting of her experience, sharing with readers her love for God and the unique story He is writing in that space. Kaylee’s passion for unlocking the imagination through stories continues to grow exponentially as she takes after Jesus’s example in the Bible when He uses parables to teach the world about freedom. Seeing the value of storytelling when it comes to understanding the intricate details of the Bible’s life-giving messages, has driven her desire to write and be a part of the process of publishing stories in the genre of Christian fiction and Biblical Theology. In reading a multitude of stories in several different genres, as a storyteller herself and aspiring editor, Kaylee appreciates the attention to detail and grammar authors use when writing, and is devoted to investing that level of dedication into her own work. With a commitment to organization and time management, she is an admirable problem-solver and communicator, able to use her creativity to adapt and produce excellence in any area of life.

With the future approaching, Kaylee aims to build and perfect her brand as an editor, writer, and publisher, growing her network to expand her knowledge and build relationships in the publishing realm. She yearns to connect with others sharing her passion for the Christian fiction genre and dreams of constructing a service or business that will help authors share their stories, experiences, and passions in an easy and stress-free way, further expanding the kingdom of God.

In the coming spring, I will graduate with my Bachelor of Science in Human Communication. In the pursuit of the extraordinary, I found book publishing. As an avid reader, I can not escape the sensation of flipping through a book’s delicate paper, feeling its smooth yet scratchy, creased, and well-loved pages. Written communication is one of the many ways humans communicate. Authors have a way of using creativity and imagination to share what they are passionate about. Publishers help authors share their vision and message with the world by putting their passion into the physical form of a book. This particular internship with Alpha Book Publisher sparked my interest in discovering the intricacies and details of the publishing process. To truly understand what it takes to write and publish a book, I knew I would need hands-on experience and people to guide me throughout the journey. I am surprised and delighted to have the opportunity to not only learn about this process but write and publish my own book as well. My hopes for this experience are to deepen my admiration for authors and publishers, solidify my knowledge of book publishing, and continue to develop my growing passion for books by learning what it takes to put one on the shelf.

I am a fiction enthusiast! Fantasy, adventure, science fiction, and mystery, are what make up most of my bookshelf, but I love to read nonfiction when it comes to biblical topics and theology. In a delightful combination of both, Christian fiction is what sparks my interest as a writer. With life-giving and gospel-centered messages, authors create a place people can visit to better understand biblical concepts, similar to the way Jesus used parables to help people understand his teachings and messages. If not writing stories to inspire people to know more about Jesus, then I want to help authors who are. The aim for my publishing journey is to build a personal brand and develop my network. Someday I also desire to write some of my own books, focusing on sharing the freedom that comes with the intricacies of biblical truths. My hope is that one day I can start my own publishing business to help others share their passion with the world books by making the process easier.

In the spring of 2023, I wrote a blog for Hope Africa Collective about my experience as a visitor there. I was on a trip with a few others from my church to learn more about South African culture and see all that God was doing through their ministry. It was a beautiful adventure, and being able to share my experience with others through writing has inspired me to not only go back but share more of what I learned through writing or help others put their experiences into words. I am but a humble writer and future writer/editor in the beginning stages of unlocking my true potential. I have not been recognized or awarded for my writing or publishing endeavors. However, my blog for Hope Africa Collective is published on their website.
