A Little Bit About Me
In 2021, I graduated from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona with my Bachelor’s in history, but I received my degree from the dean’s hands knowing that becoming a history teacher was no longer the road I wished to take, for it was while I was completing my studies that I learned I had a knack for editing and that a career in the publishing industry as an editor was the future for me.
I discovered my talent for writing during the seventh grade but it was not until college where the desire to work in publishing was truly realized. A family friend learned of my career goals and hired me as a freelance editor to spruce up the English in her collection of Daoist spiritual teaching books. I soon began to seek out other opportunities to cultivate editing experience.
I’ve done small freelance editing jobs on Upwork, worked as a news writer for the now defunct comedy website Awesome Totally Awesome, wrote publishing articles for the entrepreneurial-oriented online newsletter GREY Journal, and interned as Editor-in-Chief for A.N. Publishing’s POC-focused online magazine A Hot Set. Even with all these enriching experiences, I still strive to do and learn more to further cultivate my skills that will help me along the path towards my future.
The height of my ambitions is as an editor for a big name publishing company like Penguin, Random House, Del Rey, or Bantam and the like. I knew that, in terms of publishing, the West Coast’s well of opportunities is considerably drier compared to that of the East Coast, so I have made it my goal to save some money and earn my Master’s in publishing in the East and accrue whatever skills and experiences I can get while saving up for grad school.
My proudest achievement has to be my 80+ page history thesis on Ralph Bakshi and how his films portray the social, racial, and political atmosphere of 1960s and 70s America. And though I currently have no works published, with rejection-email-shaped arrows through my heart, I still strive to get my work out in the world.
