About the Country

Cambodia is a country located in Southeast Asia. It is bordered by Thailand to the west, Laos to the north, Vietnam to the east, and the Gulf of Thailand to the south. The capital and largest city is Phnom Penh. The official language is Khmer, and the country has a population of over 16 million people. Cambodia has a rich history and culture, with influences from India, China, and France. The Khmer Empire, which ruled from the 9th to the 15th century, was one of the most powerful empires in Southeast Asia and left behind numerous architectural and artistic treasures, including the famous Angkor Wat temple complex. In recent history, Cambodia has been plagued by civil war and political turmoil. The Khmer Rouge, a communist regime that ruled from 1975 to 1979, is responsible for the deaths of an estimated 1.5 to 2 million Cambodians through execution, starvation, and forced labor. Cambodia is currently a constitutional monarchy, with King Norodom Sihamoni as the head of state. The country is undergoing rapid development and urbanization, with a growing economy driven by agriculture, tourism, and textiles. However, poverty and corruption remain major issues. Cambodia is also known for its diverse and vibrant culture, including traditional dances, festivals, and delicious cuisine. The country is also popular among tourists for its beautiful temples and beaches, as well as its growing eco-tourism industry.
