About the Country

Czechia, also known as the Czech Republic, is a country located in Central Europe. It is bordered by Germany to the west, Poland to the north, Slovakia to the east, and Austria to the south. The country has a population of around 10.7 million people and the capital and largest city is Prague. The official language is Czech and the currency is the Czech koruna.

Czechia has a rich cultural heritage and history, shaped by centuries of influence from various empires and cultures, including the Celts, Romans, Slavs, and Austro-Hungarian Empire. The country gained independence from Austria-Hungary in 1918 and it was a republic until 1948 when it became a communist country. In 1989, the Velvet Revolution led to the fall of communism and the establishment of a multiparty democracy.


Czechia is known for its well-preserved medieval cities, castles, and historical landmarks, such as the Charles Bridge, Old Town Square and the St. Vitus Cathedral. The country is also known for its contributions to culture and art, including the works of famous writers like Franz Kafka and Milan Kundera, and composers like Antonin Dvorak and Bedrich Smetana.

Czechia is a member of the European Union, NATO and the United Nations. The country is also a member of the OECD and the World Trade Organization.
