About the Country

Barbados is a Caribbean island country located in the Lesser Antilles, in the western Atlantic Ocean. It is situated east of the Windward Islands and the Caribbean Sea, and north of Trinidad and Tobago. The capital and largest city is Bridgetown. The population of Barbados is around 287,000 people. The official language is English.

Barbados has a rich cultural heritage and a long history, including periods of colonization by the British, Spanish and Portuguese empires. In 1966, Barbados gained independence from the United Kingdom.

Barbados is a parliamentary democracy with a constitutional monarchy. The current prime minister is Mia Amor Mottley. The country is known for its political stability, and has a long tradition of democracy and human rights.
