About the Country

Algeria is a country located in North Africa, bordered by Tunisia to the northeast, Libya to the east, Niger to the southeast, Mali and Mauritania to the southwest, and Morocco to the west. It also has a coastline on the Mediterranean Sea to the north. The capital and largest city is Algiers. The population of Algeria is over 42 million people. The official language is Arabic. In 1962, it gained independence from France after a long and bloody war. Since then, the country has been ruled by the National Liberation Front (FLN) and its successor parties.
