About the Country

Cuba is an island country located in the Caribbean Sea. It is the largest island in the Caribbean and is located about 90 miles south of Florida. The population is around 11 million people and the capital and largest city is Havana. The official language is Spanish and the currency is the Cuban peso.

Cuba has a long and complex history, shaped by its location at the crossroads of the Caribbean and the Atlantic. The island was colonized by Spain in the 16th century and became a key center for the transatlantic slave trade. Cuba achieved independence in 1898, but the U.S. intervened in the country's politics and economy for decades. In 1959, a communist revolution led by Fidel Castro came to power, and the U.S. imposed a trade embargo that lasted for more than 60 years.

Cuba is known for its rich culture, which includes music, dance, literature, and art. The country is famous for its lively salsa music and the traditional Afro-Cuban rhythms of rumba and son. The island also has a diverse range of ecosystems and is home to many species of plants and animals that are not found anywhere else in the world.

In recent years, Cuba has begun to open up to the world, and in 2015, the U.S. and Cuba restored diplomatic relations.
