About the Country
Kiribati is a sovereign island nation in the Pacific Ocean, located in the Micronesian region of Oceania. The country is made up of 33 coral atolls and islands, and is spread out over an area of 3.5 million square kilometers. The capital and largest city is South Tarawa. The official languages are English and Gilbertese, the currency is the Australian dollar, and the population is around 120,000. The majority of the population is I-Kiribati and the culture is heavily influenced by the ocean and traditional customs.
Kiribati is one of the world's least developed countries and has a small economy based on fishing and subsistence agriculture. The country also receives aid from other nations and international organizations. Kiribati also faces the challenges of climate change as it is one of the low-lying island nation that is highly vulnerable to sea level rise and other effects of climate change.
The country is also known for its beautiful beaches, coral reefs, and traditional fishing practices, which attract a small number of tourists each year. Kiribati also has a rich history and culture that is worth exploring.
