About the Country

Lesotho is a small landlocked country located in Southern Africa, completely surrounded by South Africa. The official language is Sesotho and the currency is the Lesotho Loti. The population is around 2.2 million, and the majority of the population is ethnic Basotho. The capital and largest city is Maseru.

Lesotho is known for its rugged terrain, including the Maloti Mountains, which reach heights of over 3,000 meters. The country is also known for its traditional culture and way of life, which is heavily influenced by the Basotho people's pastoralist heritage. Lesotho has a vibrant textile industry, with traditional fabrics like Basotho blankets being popular among tourists.

The economy of Lesotho is heavily dependent on the agricultural and textile sectors, as well as on remittances from Basotho working in South Africa. However, the country still faces high poverty and unemployment rates, particularly in rural areas.

Lesotho is a parliamentary constitutional monarchy with a King as the ceremonial head of state. The country has a relatively stable political history, but has faced political crisis in recent years. The country has also been facing challenges in terms of the provision of basic services, such as education and healthcare, to a large portion of its population.
