A Little Bit About Me

Hi, my name is Melanie!! :)

I am currently in my senior year of college at the University of Central Florida! This means that I am taking heavier literature courses that allow me to develop skills in analyzing and interpreting pieces of writing. This has allowed me to explore different genres, techniques, and writing styles from numerous authors. This experience has definitely grown my love for books!

This internship blossomed out of my desire to know more about the publishing industry that I hope to go into once I graduate. Through pursuing an internship with Alpha Book Publisher, I hope to gain experience in the publishing industry and be more certain as to which aspect I would like to grow a career in. Getting to be involved in every step of the publishing process makes me excited to learn what I didn’t even

know was possible.

My personal favorite genre to read is YA. It is what sparked my love of books and what continues to drive it! I am also a part of the LGBTQ+ community, so it has felt very intimate to read about these sorts of experiences. I deeply enjoy relating to a character that I cherish! As I take more and more literature courses, I’m happy to learn about other genres because I get to add more books to my TBR list. One day, I hope to read a book from every genre out there!

Being so passionate about these topics, I feel that it would flow into my work in the industry. Working on a YA or a LGBTQ+ novel wouldn’t feel like work! It would be amazing to put my knowledge of writing and my editing aspirations into amazing contributions.

A few long-term career goals in the publishing field that I have include working for at least a year in every aspect of the process and working up to be the manager of a publishing team. I would love to gain years of hard-earned knowledge and harmonize a wonderful, productive team. Even though I’m not sure what my future will look like, I know that I will work hard to make a splash in the industry like no one’s ever seen.

While I have not had any prior publishing experience, I have taken a Creative Writing course where I learned how to develop characters as well as how to convey emotion in writing. I enjoyed every moment of that brief class and would be excited to try my hand at writing again! Even though it seems scary to write, I feel as though it has led me to understand and appreciate the trials of effort that writers pour into their work. I aspire to work closely with interesting writers from all walks of life.

I may not be a decorated writer or publisher yet, but I feel as though awards are not far into my future.
