Melenie Llamas - Intern

A Little Bit About Me

My name is Mel Llamas, I am a graduate of San Francisco State University with a degree in Studio Art. I am a storyteller at heart, it is my passion, motivation, my reason for living. I love storytelling, during my time in school I cultivated skills to visually express storytelling but I always ended up finding my way back to my roots and incorporating writing into my work. This led to my piece “Things We Carry” being published in the 8th issue of the Ana Magazine. A piece about the transgender experience in the world we live in today.

Most of my work is fiction and based on some level of fantasy, with other genres such as horror, and thriller. I am a proud Mexican American and grew up listening to ghost stories and folklore from my parents, and family. Through my writing, I hope to bring light and attention to issues that I and my communities have faced with race, gender, sexuality, disabilities, and mental health. While also having relatable and realistic portrayals of people within these communities and situations.

While I am new to the realm of the professional writing industry, hope to learn as much as I possibly can. As an author, I want to bring good representation and stories to my communities and beyond. But I also want to help others do the same, stories are such powerful and amazing tools. This is what I hope to do by joining this industry, uplift voices, not just for myself but for others as well.
