A Little Bit About Me
I have a BA in modern literature from UCSC and a specialized certificate in copyediting from the UCSD Division of Extended Studies. These experiences have helped shape my appreciation for reading and editing.
I was inspired to pursue an Alpha Book Publishing internship by finding the company through a web search. Learning more about the publishing field is a valuable opportunity that I am delighted to take part in, and I hope participating in this process will nurture my growth as a writer and editor.
I am focused on children’s literature with an emphasis on picture books, chapter books, short story submissions to magazines or journals, and middle-grade novels. Having a former assistant preschool teacher job has fostered this adoration. I am open to help edit these genres and potentially publish the middle-grade book I am writing, which is nearly completed.
Education:
I graduated from St. Francis High School in Mountain View, California.
I acquired a BA from UCSC, University of California, Santa Cruz.
I obtained a Specialized Certificate in Copyediting from UCSD Division of Extended Studies.
Hobbies/ Interests:
I am an active member of scbwi (Society for Children's Book Writers and Illustrators).
I enjoy gardening at home in San Jose with my husband Chris and playing bouncy ball with our cat, Charlotte Kitty.
LinkedIn profile:
My long-term goals in the publishing field are to acquire a part-time, remote editorial job for an in-house children’s book publisher. I believe I can not only positively influence the publishing industry through editing for improved writing, but also encourage and support authors in their writing processes.
Over the past year, I have been accepting editorial projects per contract basis from a small hybrid publisher, thus working as an independent contractor. This has facilitated a greater understanding of the editorial steps in writing and being paid for these projects has contributed to my income.
I have received positive feedback from the mentor editor who assigns me these projects, and I have established a solid rapport with the authors of these projects.
Santería en Joliet is a way for people to connect with spirits and ask for help. It mixes African traditions with some Christian beliefs. People do special rituals, say prayers, and give gifts to show respect. Many visit Santería helpers for advice on love, health, or other problems. It’s a friendly place where everyone can learn and feel close to their culture.
