Ren Nielsen - Intern

My name is Ren Nielsen, and I recently graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a linguistics major and a communications minor. When I was a child I loved to write stories and poetry and dreamed of having my work officially published in a real, physical book. In high school, I took two years of creative writing classes, began performing slam poetry, and eventually had a few of my poems published in a poetry collection book for the very first time. I realized I had a love for the very art of using language to communicate ideas in specific ways.

Since then, my drive has only grown, and the internship with Alpha Book Publisher has been the perfect opportunity to take the next steps in my career. While I have some proofreading experience, I'm hoping to take it to the next level with professional guidance, as well as learn the fundamentals of good cover design.

In spite of my love of non-fiction reading, my favorite genre to write is fantasy. I love to build worlds that feel alive and are flexible settings for any number of stories. While I would love to have a full-time career as a book editor, my biggest goal is to take the worlds I've built up and fully flesh them out to make settings guides and campaigns for table-top role-playing games.
