A Little Bit About Me
Hello! My Name is Sage, I am so excited to intern with Alpha Books Publishing! I have always had a strong interest in reading and decided to major in English Literature to build a career around that passion. The University of Central Florida offers Editing and Publishing certificates with their degrees. The coursework required for the certificate changed the career path I wanted, helping me to realize I wanted to pursue a career in editing and contribute to the literary field.
I decided to pursue an internship with Alpha Books Publisher because of the hands-on experience offered. My expectations for this experience are to learn more about the publishing industry as a whole, strengthen my editing skills, and leave feeling confident in my abilities. I am drawn mostly to reading fiction books, but also love memoirs and certain topics of nonfiction.
In my prior experience, I interned for a writing club at a rehabilitation facility. I edited the residents' work and compiled it into a chapbook at the end of my internship. Having edited such meaningful work and turning it into a physical book was such a fulfilling role, and I hope to get the same feeling in other jobs.
I also edited a memoir for an author in a freelance setting. I loved editing her piece to a seamless read, and the experience confirmed for me that editing was the career path I wanted to take. Working with an author and making meaningful edits to produce a polished piece of work is what excites me!
