Sofia Lopez - Intern

A Little Bit About Me

I am currently a Junior at University, double majoring in English Creative Writing and Communications. I already knew that I wanted to go into publishing before I began attending college so I chose my majors to suit my interests. I feel that the Creative Writing emphasis on my major will help me identify more with writers/clients in the future as I want to focus on being an editor or an agent.

Honestly, I really wanted to do an internship in publishing just to get a headstart on a resume and to build experience in the field. I expect to understand the full process of publishing a book, from having the manuscript to making the hardcover. I tend to ask a lot of questions just because I want to have make sure I understand the whole process so I hope to have someone to communicate with.

I am especially passionate about young adult fiction or dystopian genres. Personally, I have a great time reading them and think that I could give some great feedback the more passionate I am. Truly I see myself in an editorial or agent position contributing more to getting the book to the final stages of publishing. I think that I do a good job at refining work.

I hope to build my name in the publishing industry by helping authors publish books that they are proud of, thereby building a clientele that I will continue to work with. I strive to make the publishing process as easy and enjoyable as possible for all authors I may work with in the future.

I do have prior writing experience. I have written various works from the time I was younger up until now, it is part of a requirement for my major as it is Creative Writing. I feel that I would have no right to edit others' works had I never written any myself. I have always read works of fiction, primarily dystopian genre books that have led me to write my own works of the same genre. I feel that writing the genre gives me more appreciation of the thought and hard work put into it.

I have never entered any competition with my writing simply because school tends to take up most of my time, however, I have received recognition from my class for a few of the written works that I have turned in.
