Sophia Rossero - Intern

Devon Burton Intern at Alpha Book Publisher

Hello! My name is Sophia Rossero and I’m a senior at Baldwin Wallace University. I’ve been an avid reader and writer my entire life, and my love for literature has led me to my internship with Alpha Book Publishers. It’s always been a dream of mine to achieve my goal of being a published author, as well as helping others who dream similarly to achieve their literary aspirations. I’ve had experience with writing and editing, but this will be my first experience with publishing. I’m excited to learn more about the publishing industry and how to make an impact on the field. I hope to publish diverse stories that have not been heard before because I believe the best stories are the ones that nobody hears about. I hope to one day become an editor, and to be a vessel to help other people achieve their dreams.

I am in my senior year at Baldwin Wallace University. I’ve been studying creative writing and journalism. I’ve had numerous workshops and classes where I’ve been given the opportunity to spend time with various works and to edit them. I’ve fallen in love with reading and editing, which has led me to the publishing route. As for writing, I’ve been writing stories since I was nine years old. I love any kind of creative outlet and opportunity to put my ideas on paper. It’s been a dream of mine to publish my own works, and to help other people reach their dreams of being a published author.

This dream has led me to my internship with Alpha Book Publishers. My expectations for this experience are to learn more about the publishing industry, and to further prepare me for a career in that field. There is not a genre that I do not love to read. My favourites would have to be romance and historical fiction. As for topics, I’m a history buff. I love to learn and gain insight on historical events. I think my broad love of genres will help me work to publish a wide variety of stories. As for my topics, I think my love for researching history will help me fact check the historical works of writers. All in all, my love for reading and writing will be valuable assets to the field of publishing.

I hope to one day be an editor. The biggest impact I would like to leave on the industry is publishing books that are fresh, new and diverse to people. I think the best stories are the ones that are never shared, and I want to do my part in helping give light to those stories.

I’ve been writing for several years, but I have not had any experience in publishing until this internship. My love for writing stemmed from my love for reading. My passion for literature has influenced my career aspirations because I want to publish—and write—books that will leave a mark like the various books I’ve read.

As for my writing for The Exponent, a newspaper that covers Berea, Ohio and Baldwin Wallace University news, we’ve been a regionally and nationally recognized organization for the past few years. As a team, we’ve been awarded first place in the “Best College Newspaper” and the “Best Deadline Reporting” categories at an annual contest hosted by the Society of Journalism- Cleveland, Cincinnati, and Columbus Chapters. Additionally, we’ve been named as a finalist in the College Media Association Pinnacle Awards, which will be announced this upcoming month. This award is a nationally recognized honour.
