I’ve always loved reading and writing, and this led me to pursue English in my undergraduate and graduate degrees. In May 2023, I completed my BA with Honors at the University of Edinburgh studying English Literature. In the first two years of my undergraduate career, I also studied English Language. Then, I completed my MA in Shakespeare Studies at King’s College London in September 2024. My higher education in Edinburgh and London allowed me to learn about literature in a new cultural environment, particularly in London where my university partnered with the Globe theatre for my specific Master’s program!
Publishing, particularly the editing process, fascinates me, and this internship at Alpha Book Publisher allows me to learn about each step of book editing from a firsthand perspective. With the invaluable experience I gain from this internship, I’ll be able to move forward in further internships or jobs in the publishing field. Eventually, I hope to pursue a career as an editor at a publishing agency, ideally specializing in adult literary fiction. My background in early modern literature and history will be great as a baseline with which to work with texts from other literary eras, since many current novels, plays, and poems are inspired by the themes and techniques from the English Renaissance.
I did a creative writing course in my undergraduate degree, where our final exam was to write a short story; I wrote about two generations of women navigating love and dating and cultural identity, inspired by my own mixed Indian and Irish heritage. In my free time, I enjoy writing poetry and short stories and hope to publish my work in literary journals one day. I completed a 15,000 word dissertation about queer desire, epistolarity, and sonnets in the English Renaissance for my Master’s thesis. I’m excited to dedicate more time to creative writing in this internship and publish my own work!
