A Little Bit About Me

Hi all! My name is Sophie Shallow. I was born in Las Vegas, Nevada, but fate brought me to a little small town in Texas. I am the oldest of three kids and I am 21 years old.

I graduated high school with a 3.75 grade point average while participating in my high school’s drill team and joining an all girl’s choir. Shortly after, I made the decision to stay at home, save money while working two part time jobs, all while going to Collin Community College. I completed 60 college credits and graduated in May of 2023 with an Associate of Arts Degree in Criminal Justice. I have always had a passion for books and for writing in itself.

My grandmother inspired me to look for adventures, solve mysteries, and find love through literature. She made me believe that I could live a thousand lives all while reading. Learning the hard work, its process, and what it takes to make a successful product of something that could be enjoyed by others is all I have ever wanted to do. I want to share my excitement and love of books with other readers as passionate as I am.

Recently, I have decided that a career in law enforcement was something that wasn't for me. Now to every college student working towards a specific degree, even the mere thought of that is incredibly terrifying. I was actively looking for a way to help further my passion with books and I found Alpha Book Publishing. Furthering my research into the world of publishing, I realized this was the path I was meant to take. I expect to learn the thorough process of book publishing: creating, editing, marketing, and watching the book come to life while, at the same time, sharing my passion with others.

I have a variety of interests when it comes to book genres. Adventure, fantasy, fiction, non-fiction, mysteries, self-help, science fiction/dystopian, romance, and my personal favorites: the classics. Wuthering Heights, The Great Gatsby, Crime and Punishment, Little Woman, Pride and Prejudice, Murder on the Orient Express, and so much more. With that in mind, I have read all the greats. My creativity and excitement is endless and I have so many ideas to incorporate and explore during this internship.

I have a fair amount of goals in mind. I am a very ambitious individual, therefore I set high standards for myself. I want to gain the intelligence, knowledge, and experience of what it takes to make a great book. I want to gain effective feedback, explore ideas, and push the boundaries of my creativity.

I have no real prior experience pertaining to professional writing and publishing besides writing essays and case studies for my college classes. However, no matter what class I was in, my writing was always exemplary and concise. I am hoping to further my writing and editing skills through this internship while also gaining constructive feedback needed in order to take my writing above and beyond excellence.
