Tiandra Evans - Intern

Devon Burton Intern at Alpha Book Publisher

A Little Bit About Me

I am currently an undergraduate student at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte going into my senior year. I am pursuing a major in English with a concentration in Creative Writing and a minor in Technical/Professional Writing.

My education experience has shaped my interest in writing and publishing because as I took classes I was exposed to the different elements of those fields. From linguistics courses to grammar courses to literature courses, writing and publishing have always piqued my interest.

I was inspired to pursue an internship with Alpha Book Publisher because I have always had an interest in the publishing process. I have aspirations to be a published author one day, and I believe this internship will help me with that aspiration. I expect to learn a lot about the publishing process during this internship. I plan to take the skills I learn to help make my aspirations a reality.

I am particularly interested in poetry, music, POC cultures, and linguistics. I have written about these topics previously, so I could see myself publishing articles, books, etc. about those topics.

My long-term goal in the publishing field is to have multiple published works that cover a variety of topics and genres. I see myself making a significant impact on the publishing industry by writing and publishing about topics that may not be frequently written about with my unique perspective.

I have had some previous writing experience from a previous internship where I wrote for a community consulting company's blog. During my 8 week internship with Civility Localized, I wrote three of their blog's articles. During the spring semester at my school, I wrote my own poetry chapbook for a class project. Unfortunately, I don't have any experience with publishing; however, I am excited to gain some during this internship!

I received an A as a grade for my chapbook which I previously mentioned. I have also earned a spot on my university's Chancellor's list for the past three semesters.
