Top Book Publishers in Los Angeles

If you are an author in Los Angeles and looking for a book publisher to get your work out there, there are many options available. But finding the right one for your work can be a bit tricky.

There are several different types of book publishers, including indie and major university presses. Here are some of the top book publishing companies in Los Angeles.

LARB Books

LARB Books is the publishing wing of the Los Angeles Review of Books, a nonprofit that publishes rigorous and engaging writing on literature and culture. Dedicated to a curious and global readership, LARB Books combines the precision of academic inquiry with the spirit of Los Angeles’s vibrant literary lineage.

Founded in 2011 by Tom Lutz, LARB’s mission is to promote and disseminate rigorous, incisive, and engaging writing on literature and culture. Through a website, channels, radio show, publishing workshop, print journal, podcasts, short films, and book press, LARB provides multiple platforms for public discourse not just on literature and culture but on issues of equality, justice, and sustainability.

The LARB Publishing Workshop, an intensive summer program designed for those who have a literary venture in mind, deliberately recruits underrepresented participants and favors independent projects. The aim is to transform the publishing industry from the ground up by increasing access, facilitating change, and inspiring invention.

In addition to publishing three series (Classics, Provocations, and True Stories), LARB Books also houses the imprint Les Figues Press. They publish short fiction, poetry, and a variety of creative nonfiction.

They also provide a wide range of services for writers, including proofreading and editing, book design, copyediting, and marketing. Their products are distributed to bookstores and libraries worldwide.

Besides providing a variety of services, they also publish a number of books each year, as well as a few titles that are only available to subscribers. LARB Books also provides a number of opportunities for its authors, including readings and interviews.

Located on Sunset Boulevard in the heart of Hollywood, LARB Books has become a renowned destination for literary enthusiasts and artists alike. Their eclectic ethos has built an online audience that is one-third international, heavy on academics posted at the far corners of the globe. They also have a large community of donors, many of whom are supporters of the REDCAT Arts Center in Santa Monica, and are committed to promoting Los Angeles’s diverse literary heritage.

Les Figues Press

Founded in 2005 by Teresa Carmody, Sara LaBorde, Pam Ore, and Vanessa Place, Les Figues Press is a nonprofit literary organization that publishes experimental writing, literature in translation, and interdisciplinary art. The press partnered with the Los Angeles Review of Books in 2017 as an imprint of LARB Books, and continues to seek out and circulate new forms of experimental writing and literature that challenge the avant-garde.

Les Figues’ signature project is the TrenchArt series, an annual publication of a selection of texts that explore similar aesthetic or formal concerns. Inspired by trench art, which is created by soldiers during wartime using whatever they have available – shell casings, scrap metal, or bone – the TrenchArt series takes its name from the idea that art can emerge from conflict and forced community.

The underlying mission of Les Figues is to create aesthetic conversations between readers, writers, and artists. This is accomplished through a number of projects, including the NOS (not otherwise specified) Book Contest.

For the NOS Book Contest, authors are asked to submit a collection of poems or lyrical essays. The winners receive $1,000 and a publication by the press.

In addition to its NOS Book Contest, the press also hosts the Living Writers series and publishes a quarterly magazine called The People. The press is committed to supporting local creatives, promoting literacy in schools, and publishing works by emerging writers.

World Stage Press is an arts and literary non-profit that seeks to promote a sense of community in Los Angeles through education, publishing, and preservation. The Press aims to celebrate local writers and their work through the Community Literature Initiative, the Live Writers Series, and the Sims Library.

Los Nietos Press

Los Nietos Press publishes books by a wide range of writers. They aim to create a community of readers by producing literature that explores the complex, multifaceted nature of Los Angeles.

They are dedicated to bringing the best of thought and writing to an international audience. They publish three series: Classics, a collection of revivals of exemplary Southern California literature; Provocations, philosophical approaches to the contemporary intellectual condition; and True Stories, the first of its kind, a series of novella-length creative nonfiction.

Their titles feature the work of authors from all over the world. They seek out literature that challenges, inspires and informs, and they collaborate closely with their artists to ensure they produce finely tuned, intentional experiences.

This publisher also produces a number of events, such as the 'Living Writers' Series, which features local writers who are published with them to visit LAUSD classrooms and perform their works for students.

The company is run by a team of talented individuals who are passionate about publishing books. They also provide a variety of services for their clients, including marketing, PR, and sales.

In addition, they also offer a number of special promotions and discounts for their customers. Their products can be found in most book stores, as well as online.

They are a small, independent, and bilingual press that specializes in socially engaged poetry and literature that matters. Their mission is to promote literary diversity and foster an appreciation for Latin American literature.

They have been published by a variety of renowned authors, including Luis J. Rodriguez, who is a winner of the PEN Josephine Miles Literary Award and a National Book Critics Circle Award finalist. Their publications have been reviewed by a wide variety of media, including The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal.

World Stage Press

The World Stage Performance Gallery is a historic landmark in Los Angeles, and its publishing arm has been around since the early 1990s. The press has a reputation for releasing books that are more than just words on paper, with an emphasis on works that defy easy categorization. The company also has a slew of awards and accolades to their name, including the most prestigious literary award in the state, the AWP Best Book Awards.

The company has a number of products, but its most popular offering is the World Stage Bookshop, which boasts a collection of over 30,000 titles. This includes a wide variety of genres and authors, from the classics to contemporary works of fiction, nonfiction and poetry. The company has a dedicated staff and an extensive distribution network, which allows it to reach an ever-growing list of readers.

The most interesting part of the press is its outreach program, which focuses on schools and libraries. They have a plethora of programs, from school reading clubs to literature festivals, to give students the tools they need to become engaged and productive readers. The company also has a large staff, including the eponymous CEO Hiram Sims and his wife Conney Williams. The World Stage Press is one of the most dedicated publishers in the city, and they are constantly looking for ways to make a difference in their community. They have a long history of providing innovative and creative solutions to the needs of their customers, and they are a shining example of the type of companies that can thrive in Los Angeles.

Writ Large Press

Writ Large Press is an indie book publisher based in Los Angeles that publishes emerging writers from the Los Angeles area. They are also an active member of the literary community and host readings and workshops. They have a booth at the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books, bring writing programs to local schools for underserved students, and offer their services to other organizations.

Their books explore the nuances of the city, from the hidden to the unseen. They feature works that bend the literary expectations, use language in striking ways, or present an emotional portrait of the human condition.

They have published over 40 titles and plan to publish more in the future. They also have a lab and studio where they research, develop, and distribute projects for radio, podcast, television, and new technologies.

In honor of their 10th anniversary, Writ Large is publishing a mixtape. It's a limited edition, double-sided hi-fi cassette with artwork from Ana Chaidez and Alan Nakagawa. It features beats by some of today's most influential beat makers, paired with WLP's poet and author family members.

Founded in 2007, Writ Large is a micro-publisher dedicated to publishing emerging Los Angeles writers. Their mission is to help these writers grow in their writing career and to bring their work to a wider audience.

For the next 90 days, Writ Large will be presenting an array of literary happenings around downtown and Little Tokyo. The series, titled #90x90LA, is an attempt to create a neighborhood-specific literary scape that celebrates the rich diversity of the city and its many neighborhoods.

Their projects include: a book series, a podcast, and an online blog. They also have a physical bookstore and community center in LA.
