Verlicia Indah Prabowo - Intern

Devon Burton Intern at Alpha Book Publisher

A Little Bit About Me

Greetings, my name is Verlicia Indah Prabowo, you can call me Cia. I am currently a student at Binus University, my major is Business Management in online program. During my second year, I had an English for Professional class where I learned at an intermediate level.

My assignments consist of writing an essay, making presentations about a business, etc. When I wrote the essays, I was quickly interested and worked hard to make the essay. I also love reading books, from romance novels to historical fiction. Whenever I read, I tend to get this idea about a story with my own character, however, I never actually develop them. This inspires me to write, where I can make my own story and build the characters based on my preferences.

Since last year, I have been looking for a remote internship, but I couldn’t find any until I started looking into a publishing company. At first, I was doubtful because I have no experience in writing and my major is not qualified for this job. That was until I found Alpha Book Publisher, and after reading the information about their internship program I was instantly interested in the program. Despite my lack of experience in writing, I’m willing to try and work hard to fulfill this program and earn this experience.

Through this internship program, I look forward to learning more about writing and developing my skills in writing a book. Moreover, I hope this program will help me look for a job in the publishing field.

Currently, I am interested in true crime. In my country, there’s an unsolved murder case where there are three perpetrators still on the loose. Recently, the authorities caught one of them and he didn’t confess. This case has been around for eight years and even though they have identified 8 suspects, five of them are behind bars, the other three are still free. I also listened to a few true crime podcasts before and watched some documentaries. In my current interest, I wish to help Alpha Book Publisher stay updated and explore more topics.

My long-term career goal in the publishing field is by doing this internship program, I have more experience in writing and developing a story so I can edit or proofread a story in the future. I also want to help writers publish their books so that readers can read and experience what the writer is trying to tell them and help the writer show their creativity.

When I was in high school, my literature teacher (Indonesian) gave the students an assignment to write a poem. Since the topic was not determined, I wrote one about life and it’s called “Lilin” (candles). The poem I wrote was a parable about the similarity of our lives and candles, where we live to shine in others’ lives and once our time is running out, our light will dim just like a candle once it burns out. The poem I made was picked to be in the book along with several others from my classmates and the school gave the book to all the students.
