Zoe Shelafoe - Intern

A Little Bit About Me

I am currently in college as an English major. I was always into the arts. I was in band in middle school and went to a performing arts high school. I was always searching for a way to express myself creatively. While my schools gave me these options and they were a joy to be a part of it wasn’t enough, there was something missing.

It wasn’t until college I realized that I could write for more than the little ideas I wrote myself. It was in college I realized I could do something with these ideas in school, not just something I had to wait till school breaks to do. My love of writing and books has pushed me to jump into the deep end with writing and publishing.

When I read the internship for Alpha Book Publisher I knew I had to apply, I had to get in. That was because they take you step by step through the publishing process. You don’t work with just one person, you get many different perspectives. They want to build on what you already know and teach you new stuff. The idea of walking away from this internship with a better understanding of what to expect and the experience under my belt is enough to make me excited to join the program.

The genre I am most passionate about is fiction. Fiction is what began my love of reading so there is a soft spot. Fiction is a great escape to the harsh world happening around us. However, I have recently begun writing slice-of-life non-fiction and I am excited to grow in that genre. My long term goals in the publishing field is to publish the books I write as well as be an editor to other writers so they can live their publishing dreams.
